SG CARES ABOUT

Literacy

SG is helping close the literacy gap in urban areas including Detroit. Selam Sanders currently serves on the Board of Beyond Basics, a nonprofit dedicated to one-on-one reading intervention and holistic literacy enrichment programs. Beyond Basics proven methods have unlocked the miracle and power of reading and opened a whole new world and future to those who need it most.

“For everyone, everywhere, literacy is, along with education in general, a basic human right…. Literacy is, finally, the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential.” ― Kofi Annan

Autism

Autism is a broad term used to describe a group of neurodevelopmental disorders. These disorders are characterized by problems with communication and social interaction. Autism is found in individuals around the world, regardless of race, culture, or economic background. Selam Sanders has firsthand knowledge about Autism with her younger brother.

“Autism is a journey I never expected, but I sure do love my tour guide.” – Selam Sanders

Youth Sports

We are manic in our support of youth sports and amateur athletics. Much of this stems from Derron Sanders’ childhood being forever changed in a positive way when he joined little league football as it taught him the value of team sports.

“Youth sports are a great way for children to stay healthy. But the benefits go far beyond that. Kids who participate in sports have higher academic achievement, lower dropout rates and they develop skills like decision making, communication, teamwork, and time management. It was youth athletics that taught me the value of ‘Teamwork makes the dream work!’ – Derron Sanders
